The Division of Agriculture (DA) — in tandem with the Bureau of Customs (BOC), Division of Commerce and Business (DTI), and different member-agencies of the Sub-Job Group on Financial Intelligence (STG EI) and Compliance and Regulatory Enforcement for Safety and Commerce Workplace (CREST-O) — has confiscated greater than P650-million (M) value of imported farm and fishery merchandise that have been misdeclared, overvalued, and entered illegally, from April 2021 to February 2022.
“We’re relentless in our joint efforts to confiscate all unlawful imported farm, fishery, and meals merchandise to guard not solely our farmers and fisherfolk, but in addition our agri-fishery sector from transboundary illnesses, and our countrymen from unsafe and unhygienic meals objects,” Agriculture Secretary William Dar stated.
“We commend the women and men of the DA, BOC, DTI, and the composite groups of STG EI and CREST-O for his or her continued intelligence gathering and vigilance to forestall smuggling and apprehend offenders,” he added.
In a report back to Secretary Dar, DA Assistant Secretary Federico Laciste, Jr. stated of the entire confiscated objects, these apprehended by the STG EI, from April to November 2021, amounted to P548.56 M, whereas P109-M value was confiscated from January to February 2022, on account of the joint operations of the STG EI and CREST-O groups. Laciste heads the DA-Extensive Area Inspectorate and Bantay Presyo Job Pressure.
The confiscated items in 2021 consisted of:
- P121.3-M value of undervalued imported rice shipped in Cebu, Cagayan de Oro (CDO) and Iloilo, on April 5, 2021;
- P101.5 M – purple onions, in Subic, July 8, 12, and 19, 2021;
- P100 M – ASF-infected meat and diverse agri-fishery merchandise, in Navotas, on Could 27, 2021;
- P72 M – assorted greens and purple onions at CDO Port, November 19, 2021;
- P70 M – assorted greens in Subic, November 18, 2021.
- P50 M – purple onions at CDO Port, November 8 and 9, 2021;
- P15 M – assorted greens, in Subic, October 13 and 14, 2021;
- P10 M – agri-fishery merchandise in Calumpit, Bulacan, on September 1, 2021;
- P4.7 M – assorted greens, Malabon Metropolis; and
- 1,874 sacks of sugar, in Navotas, April 18 and 19, 2021.
In January and February this yr, Laciste stated the confiscated shipments, totaling P109 M, included:
- P46-M value of smuggled agri-fishery, frozen meat, and merchandise from China, on Feb. 8, 9, and 15, 2022;
- P42 M – misdeclared fishery merchandise from Vietnam, at a chilly storage in Meycauayan, Bulacan, Jan. 31, 2022;
- P 11 M – misdeclared frozen meat, in Antipolo and Quezon Metropolis, Feb. 8 and 9, 2022; and
