(Eagle Information) – The primary division of the Fee on Elections has “dismissed for lack of benefit” the consolidated petitions in opposition to presidential aspirant Ferdinand Marcos Jr., that sought his disqualification.

In a tweet, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez mentioned that the Comelec’s first division junked the consolidated petitions in opposition to Marcos.

“The consolidated petitions of Ilagan v. Marcos Jr., Akbayan v. Marcos Jr., and Mangelen v. Marcos Jr. have been dismissed for lack of benefit, by the COMELEC’s 1st Division,” Jimenez mentioned in a tweet posted on his official twitter account at round 7 p.m., Thursday, February 10.

The petitions have been filed by three teams – by playwright, movie maker and screenwriter Bonifacio Ilagan, former Bayan Muna partylist Rep. Satur Ocampo and others; by Akbayan Residents’ Motion Occasion and former political prisoners; and by Abubakar Mangelen, ousted chair of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

Earlier than this, controversy on these consolidated petitions arose after former Comelec commissioner Rowena Guanzon claimed that the choice on these petitions was being delayed.

Guanzon, who earlier than her retirement presided over the three-member First Division, has accused Commissioner Aimee Ferolino, the assigned ponente of the choice, that there was a transfer to exclude her vote.

Guanzon, who retired on February 2, approved the Comelec to launch a duplicate of her separate opinion on these petitions, that favored Marcos’ disqualification.

Ferolino, however, requested Guanson “to cease conditioning the minds of the folks” on the supposed delay in deciding the petitions filed with the primary division,

“As a coequal member of this Fee, I’m asking you to please cease conditioning the minds of the folks that there’s a delay [in the resolution] as a result of there may be none,” she mentioned in an earlier assertion.

“Extra importantly, I’m asking you to spare the Fee from all these controversies since you are destroying the credibility of the company which you claimed to have beforehand served with integrity and candor,” Ferolino mentioned.

The petitions sought to disqualify Marcos from the 2022 elections for his failure to file revenue tax returns from 1982 to 1985.

Aside from Jimenez’ tweet saying the Comelec’s determination, the fee has not but launched a duplicate of the mentioned determination by the primary division.
